units ABC/NC Grading Math 19W Precalculus Workshop Course description: A course designed to help all students excel in Math 19. Students work in groups on challenging problems to help them understand precalculus concepts more deeply and lay the groundwork for success in precalculus and in future math courses. Concurrent enrollment in Math 19 required. 1 unit CR/NC grading
Workshops in Precalculus and Calculus have been shown to help students succeed in these difficult courses. Students in Math 19W are encouraged to form student study groups and continue working on their precalculus homework together outside of class.
Students receiving a score of 18-22 on the MPE are required to register for both Math 19 and Math 19W.
Students receiving a score of 23-32 on the MPE or a grade of B or higher in Math 8 (or an equivalent community college course) are required to register for both Math 19 and Math 19W online. Even though we encourage all Math 19 students to take Math 19W these students may drop Math 19W by getting permission at the Math Dept. office (MacQuarrie Hall 308).
If at all possible, students registering for Math 19W should register for the section of Math 19W that meets right after their Math 19 lecture. Thus students taking Math 19 section 1 should register for Math 19W section 1, students taking Math 19 section 2 should register for Math 19W section 2, etc.
