Requirement Changes for the BA Math - Preparation for Teaching

Students who declare their major to be the BA Math-Preparation for Teaching in Fall 2005 or later, need to take Math 161A and Math 161B (rather than Math 163 and one of Math 161A or 164).  Students who declared this major prior to Fall 2005 can follow either the old requirements or the new requirements.  All students in this major can now select a course from Math 133A, 142, 143C, 143M, 177 or 178 (rather than the previous shorter list of 143M, 177 or 178).

Fall 2005
Math 19 and Math 19A

Math 19A covers the same precalculus content as Math 19.  Both are 5-unit courses and are graded on a basis of ABC/NC.  Math 19 involves 5 hours per week of lecture.  Math 19A involves 3 hours of lecture and 4 hours of activity per week.  The activity will primarily involve doing homework problems.
