SJSU Math Dept

Professor Jackson is will no longer be the Math Dept. chair at San Jose State (but if anything goes wrong it is still his fault for at least one more year).  Dr. Bem Cayco is the chair starting July 1, 2013.  Here is Professor Jackson’s teaching schedule for the fall.

Fall 2013 Classes

SJSU Juggling Club (MW 12-1,Th 1:30-2:30)

Math 142 Intoduction to Combinatorics  MW 10:30-11:45

Math 177 Linear Programming and Game Theory  MW 16:30-17:45

Professor Jackson still supervises the Spartan Juggling Club which meets several times a week (Mondays 12-1, Wednesdays 12-1, and Thursdays 1:30-2:30, this fall semester on the field outside of MacQuarrie Hall)

SJSU Juggling Club (MW 12:00-1:00, Th 1:30-2:30)

Professor Jackson helps to organize the annual SJSU Problem of the Week competition.

Problem of the Week Competition

1st prize $50     2nd prize $30  3rd prize $20

Every Monday Professor Jackson will post a problem.  Copies of the problems (and answers to the old problems) are available on the table in front of the Math office, MH 308 or online.  The students with the most points throughout the semester will be eligible for the prizes above.  There is an undergraduate division as well as a graduate division.  For more information click on the link below.

2013 Problem of the Week Competition

Students interested in participating in the William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competiton should notify Professor Brad Jackson (MH 308, Phone: 924-5100, Email: bradley.jackson@sjsu.edu) by October 1.  The competition is open to regularly enrolled undergraduates who have not yet received a baccalaureate degree.  The Putnam Exam is a nationwide problem-solving competition that emphasizes problems in the first two years of the mathematics curriculum (foundations of math, calculus, discrete math, linear algebra, etc.).  For more information click on the link below.

74th Annual Putnam Exam Dec. 1, 2013
