Jim Riley (MS Math SJSU 1977) worked for several companies as a systems analyst/software engineer. Presently he is the coordinator of the Math Lab at Hartnell College.
Robert W. Rector (AB Math SJS 1937) was the Dean of College and Engineering and Computer Science at West Coast University. He also held positions at the US Naval Academy and UCLA. He was also an Executive Director of the American Federation of Information Processing Societies.
Ruth Davis (MS Math SJS 1976, Ph.D. Information Science UC Santa Cruz 1979, ACM Doctoral Forum thesis award 1979) is a Professor of Computer Engineering at Santa Clara University.
William Slough (BA Math SJSU 1976, MS Math SJSU 1976, Ph.D. Computer Science Washington State 1992) teaches in the Dept. of Math and CS at Eastern Illinois University.
Margaret Owens (BA Math SJSU 1978, MS Math SJSU 1980, Ph.D. Math Oregon) has been at CSU, Chico since 1984. She received the 1994-95 outstanding teacher award at CSU Chico. Presently she is the associate dean of natural sciences.
Chris S. O’Connor (MS Math SJSU 1987, Fuller scholarship 1985/1986, PhD Math Oregon 1992) is an associate professor of Mathematics at Shawnee State University in Portsmouth, Ohio.
Arthur Hiatt (BA Math SJSU1956, MA Math SJSU 1964, PhD UC Berkeley). He taught for ten years in the Santa Clara Unified School District and at Fresno State University for 20 years until his retirement in 1994. He died in Cambria in 2007.
Karel Zikan (BS Math SJSU 1982, Hoggatt prize 1982, Fuller award 1982, PhD OR Stanford 1990) was a professor at SUNY Stony Brook for many years. He has published nearly 40 scientific papers, and was a Fulbright fellow/Fulbright professor.
Kathleen (Dedinas) Hann (BS Math SJSU 1985, Math/CS Dept. scholarship 1983, Ph.D. Math UC Davis 1991) is a Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science at CSU, East Bay.
Julie Mitchell (BA Math SJSU 1992, Summa Cum Laude, Hoggatt award 1991, Dieckmann award 1991, Ph.D. UC, Berkeley 1998) is an associate professor of Mathematics and Biochemistry and the Director of the BACTER Institute for Computational Biology at the University of Wisconsion, Madison.
Mark Mckinzie (BA Math SJSU 1986, Hoggatt award 1986, Dieckmann scholarship 1986, Ph.D. Wisconsin 2000) is a professor at St. John Fisher College (Rochester, NY) in the Department of Mathematical and Computing Sciences. In 2002 Professor McKinzie was awarded the Carl B. Allendoerfer Award for Excellence in Expository Writing.
Rebecca Wahl (MA Math SJSU 1991, CSU pre-doctoral scholarship, Ph.D. Purdue 1997) is an assistant professor in the Department of Mathematics and Actuarial Science at Butler University in Indiannapolis.
Sharon Cabaniss (BA Math SJSU 1982, ARCS scholarship 1982, Ph.D. Math UC Santa Cruz 1986) taught for several years in the Math/CS department at San Jose State University. Currently she is a tenured professor in the Math Department at Sonoma State University.

Madelyn (Teall) Gould (BS Math SJSU 1977, MS Math SJSU 1980) worked as an Assistant Professor of Math/CS at Georgia Perimeter College. She recently retired after 25 years of teaching.

Preston Royer (AB Math SJSU 1936, MBA Stanford 1938) is retired after working for more than 30 years at Owens Corning Fiberglass as a manufacturing executive.
Albert Yost (AB Math SJS 1942) worked for the US Engineering Dept. for three years and from then until his retirement in 1990 he was employed as a civil engineer and land surveyor by a civil engineering firm in Redwood City.
Mary Eileen Wilson Kahara (BA Math SJS 1947) worked as a computer scientist at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.
Charles Ginsberg (BA Math San Jose State College 1948) worked as a studio and transmitter engineer at radio station KQW in San Jose, now KCBS in San Francisco and in 1952 he joined Ampex as an electrical and radio engineer. He was the leader of a research team at Ampex, which developed one of the first practical videotape recorders in 1956. Charles Ginsburg held the position of vice president of Advanced Technology at Ampex from 1975 until his retirement in 1986. He was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 1990 and the Consumer Electronics Hall of Fame in 2000. He died in 1992 in Eugene, Oregon.
Benjamin Briggs (AB Math SJSU 1948, MA Stanford 1949, MBA Santa Clara 1975) worked for 31 years at NASA Ames in research, technology transfer, digital computer usage and programming and several years after that as a financial analyst for FMC Corporation.
F.K. Tomlin (MS Math SJS 1958) was employed for over 35 years developing software on a variety of different projects at SRI. He died in 1992.
William R. Nipper (BA Math SJS 1960) taught high school math for seven years. Later he programmed various mathematical and statistical models at GE for twenty years. He eventually became a manager and then a technical writer at GE and Sun Microsystems.
Hank Javora (BA Math SJS 1962) worked for many years as a Computer Procurement Specialist and IP contract administrator. He also picked up a JD degree on the way. He is now retired.
Michael Hodos (Math SJS 1965) has worked for many years at Oracle Corporation. Presently he is the Director of Internal Support.
Dan Borror (BA Math SJS 1965) worked at Toshiba Semiconductor as the director of engineering.
George Crozier (BA Math SJS 1966, MA Math SJS 1970) taught mathematics in the Fremont Unified School District for 17 years. He then acquired a tax preparation company now known as Tax Related Services, which he still operates today.
Ken Smith (BA Math SJSU 1967, MSEE CS UC Santa Barbara 1977) has been employed by the Pacific Missile Test Center where he developed software for the testing of US Navy missiles and aircraft.
Barbara Warsavage (BA Math SJSU 1967, MS Statistics CSU, Hayward 1975, Ph.D. Education Stanford 1982) has worked as a statistician at Rolm Corporation but she is currently a self-employed statistician/analytics professional.
John Legg (BA Math SJSU 1968) has been employed by the Ford Aerospace and Communications Corporation. He served as a Design Reliability Supervisor and his group was responsible for the reliability analysis of spacecraft.
Kenneth Neves (BA Math SJSU 1968, MA Math 1970, Ph.D. Math 1973 Arizona State) worked for many years at Boeing where he was the director of computer science research. Presently he is the Chief Information Officer at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.
William Goodin (BA Math SJSU 1969, Masters 1971, Ph.D. UCLA 1975) has worked in environmental, aerospace, and computer graphics industries, he has been a faculty member of Caltech University and has also worked as Coordinator of Industrial Programs at UCLA extension.
Patricia Seymour (BA Math SJS 1969, teaching credential SJS 1971) has worked for several years at Lockheed as a Subcontracts Administrator in the Space Systems Division.

Wilson Wong (BA Math SJS 1970, Master's Electrical Engineering University of Southern California, MBA University of Santa Clara) is the co-founder and general manager of Asante Technologies in San Jose. Prior to founding Asante, Wong held engineering and management positions at a number of technology companies including Sperry Univac, Sytek and Ungermann-Bass. Gary Schaezlin (BA Math SJS 1970) is the owner and co-founder of Western Mountaineering a company in San Jose that manufactures and sells sleeping bags and other outdoor equipment.

Ed Oates (BA Math SJSU 1968) worked at various companies like Singer, US Army Persincom, Ampex, and Memorex before co-founding Software Development Labs in 1977 (with Larry Ellison and Bob Miner), which later became Oracle Corporation. Oracle Corporation developed some of the first database management software. Oates retired from Oracle in 1995, to pursue his interests in start-up companies. Today, he serves as a technology advisor to several start-up companies with promising technologies, including GLOOLABS and Auguri Corporation.
James Bonnaci (BA Math SJSU 1986) worked as a senior project leader at Adobe. He is currently a graduate student in the School of Art and Design at SJSU.
Karel Zikan (BS Math SJSU 1982, PhD OR Stanford 1990) has over 20 years of research and industry experience at companies like Terabeam, Sun Microsystems, Boeing and Hughes Research. Dr. Zikan works in the areas of networks and network flows, numerical and stochastic optimization, and combinatorial and discrete algorithms. He has published nearly 40 scientific papers, technical reports and book reviews. He holds seven patents with twelve additional patents pending.
Brian Tvedt (Hoggatt prize 1989, BA Math SJSU 1990, PhD UC Berkeley 1997) has worked at Oracle Phaos Technology as a software engineer in New York City.
Nadia Ghamrawi (BSCS SJSU, MS CS University of Massachusetts 2004) presently works at Adobe Systems.
Steve Leonard (BSCS SJSU 1987, SJSU MSCS SJSU 1992) has worked at Atmel and Credence and is now a technical writer at Cisco.
Lucille Morton began her studies at SJS in 1943 in mathematics and received a master’s degree from this department writing her thesis under Vern Hoggatt. Her maiden name was Rafferty. She taught at Notre Dame High School and also at Evergreen Elementary. She subbed at SJCC in the evening and also taught at Campbell High School in Gilroy. She has given money to fund the Morton Future Teacher Award, which is given each year to a student interested in teaching mathematics.
Marjorie A. Stuhlman (Hopper) received a BA Math degree from SJS in 1947. Marjorie writes that she attended SJSU from 1942-47 and was a member of the first class of graduate students. Marjorie taught math at Fremont High from 1947-50, then was department chairman at Modesto High School from 1960-82.
Claire Christensen (BA Math SJS 1949, MA Math SJS 1951). Claire is a retired mathematics teacher and dept. chair. He taught at Los Altos High School for 25 years.
Robert Rienhart (BA Math 1957, MA Math SJS 1964) taught at Blackford High School in Campbell.
Robert Buchser (BA Math SJS 1957, MA Santa Clara 1974) taught for 7 years as a secondary mathematics teacher and served more than 19 years as a Vice Principal at Wilcox High School.
Howard Jensen (BA Math SJS 1962, MA Math SJS 1967) taught for many years at Pioneer High School in San Jose. In 1992 he was recognized as, Teacher of the Year by the Santa Clara Valley Mathematics Association, and he was selected as a finalist in the Tandy Technology Scholars Program.
Miriam Pasqual (BA Math SJS 1965, teaching credential SJS 1966) taught K-8 mathematics in the Murray School District and the Dublin Unified School District for 38 years from 1966-2004.

Cecelia Anderson (BA Math SJSU 1994, Math Teaching Credential SJSU 1995) was one of 26 public school teachers who were designated "1999 Teachers of the Year" for Santa Clara County. She was honored at the 30th annual awards ceremony held in September at the Mountain View Center for Performing Arts. Cecelia currently teaches at C.T. English Middle School in Los Gatos.

He held a B.S. in electrical engineering from UC Berkeley and had worked in industry for more than a decade before returning to school. He earned a B.S. in computer science and mathematics at San Jose State University before beginning graduate studies at UCSC in 2005 with support from a National Institutes of Health fellowship.
