Text: Introduction to Graph Theory by Douglas B. West (2nd edition).

Prerequisites: Math 142 or Math 179 or instructor consent.

SJSU Drop Policy: After Tues. Feb. 17 students can only drop a class for a serious and compelling reason.  Written documentation is required.

Course Description:  In this course we will study roughly chapters 1-7 of the textbook (approximately one chapter every two weeks).  Roughly the same topics as in math 179 only in greater depth.  The theory of graphs is usually emphasized more than the applications (graph algorithms).

Grading:  Homework assignments for each section will be given but not collected.  Every few weeks a few special problems will be collected and discussed.  Each assignment is worth 30 points.  Students are allowed and even encouraged to work together in groups on their homework assignments (but no copying allowed and no joint work on exams).  Since the homework assignments are discussed in class immediately after they are turned in no late assignments can be accepted.  One takehome midterm worth 60 points will be given at 7-8 weeks into the semester.  A comprehensive takehome final exam will be given and it will be worth 90 points.   An end of the semester group project will also count for 30 points of your grade.

Homework =  120 points

Project = 30 points

Midterms  =  60 points

Final  =  90 points

Total  =   300 points

The Juggling Club: The Juggling Club meets Wednesdays, 11:30-12:30, out on the Tower Hall quad (or under MacQuarrie Hall if it rains). Everyone is invited to come out and learn to juggle, or to practice and improve their juggling. Announcements of the meetings will occasionally be made in class.
